The coalition against ISIS has 62 countries among its members.

Belgian Defense Minister Steven who spoke to Belgian media questioned the effectiveness of the cooperative mechanism set up with the Russian military. Vandeput said; “The international coalition looks day by day how the situation evolves”.

The move follows US cruise missile strikes on a Syrian airbase this week. Russia followed with the suspension of the “deconfliction” hotline between its forces and those of the US-led coalition, further deteriorating ties between the two countries.

Minister Vandeput questioned the effectiveness of the cooperative mechanism set up with the Russian military, as he announced that operations would be suspended “until further notice”.

Twenty of the coalition partners, which include two non-states in the form of the European Union and Arab League, provide air support or other military equipment. Others, are supplying logistical or humanitarian aid.

At least 15 civilians, including four children, were killed in a suspected US-led coalition airstrike on Saturday near the Islamic State group’s Syrian bastion of Raqqa, according to reports.

On Thursday, the US launched 59 Tomahawk land attack missiles targeting the Syrian military’s Shairaat air base. The operation, according to the Pentagon, was punishment for an alleged chemical attack, which claimed nearly 80 lives and left 200 injured on the outskirts of Khan Shaikhun, a small town in the militant-held province of Idlib, on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, figures released by a human rights organisation said more civilians caught up in the Syrian conflict were killed by US-led coalitions than by Isis or Russian-led forces in the last month.
